My_Running Vivid memories of racing my brothers, friends, classmates, and any one else who wanted to race, starting when about 3 years old. Mostly short sprints back then.Inspired by Bob Hayes, Jim Ryun, Kip Kieno, Billy Mills, Frank Shorter, Steve Prefontaine, Bill Rogers, Steve Scott. Decided to someday run a Marathon after watching Frank Shorter win in Berlin('72). Went out on our High School track and ran my first sub 5min. mile and could not imagine how those guys could do that for 26mi. 385yards! First official long distance(10k)road race in Summer of 1978. First 26.2 winter of '81, goal of sub 3hrs., ran 2:47:47! Have several reasons for continuing to run on a daily basis. First is for health, wellness, fitness. Hope to die running on or after 101st Birthday ;->
About_me Enjoy walking/hiking,cycling,swimming/snorkeling/scuba, learning, teaching sailing/boating, skiing(water & snow), shopping with Spouse, Table tennis, tennis, golf, bowling, darts, cards, Boggle(Big), gardening(fruit trees, vegetables, flowers), dining w/family & friends. As most of us do, I like to play. My life seems to be part fantasy/fiction, part adventure/action, part tragedy/comedy and mostly just thrilled and full of gratitude to still be alive.
Running_story Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, I ran a race and won it! Sorry, couldn't resist. Have won many races in many places at many different distances. Mostly a long, long time ago and when faster runners didn't show up. From here to that light pole, across the yard, through the field, up the hill, last one there is a rotton egg, first one takes the last one's place. Whether it's 40 yards or 50 kilometers or 100 miles, 6 day races, or across a continent or around the world, running is awesome. Have fun running/jogging/walking/moving about, no mater how fast/slow, far/short, here, there, everywhere. The secret is to enjoy the effort.
Comments Today is Tu. 11, May 2004. Run yet? Bare footed on a beach or grass? Just for today, do something fun that you've never done before. If you like something about someone, tell them, a compliment is better for the giver than the receiver. Both feel good, everybody wins, even just a smile,hi or nod improves life. Psycho run plans for next 10yrs. include 10 runs a wk, 50 wks a yr, 10 miles a day so another 35,000 miles by mid May 2014! Seems crazy, time will tell. Probably include many walking miles 5 yrs. from now. A mile is a mile. Ultra folks count their walking miles during the Western States 100, so can we during any race or work out. Better quit rambling and go for a run.
